Firefox and Firewalls

No, this is not a tongue-twister, although it could be if you say that title over and over as quickly as you can. (It’s amazing how easily I can be amused).

Anyway, my mother, who is 83 years old, and a good example of a life-long learner, was having computer trouble.

She had just downloaded the Firefox browser and was going to use it instead of Internet Explorer. We were told that Firefox doesn’t have as many virus issues. I also like the fact you can have multiple windows open at once and switch back and forth.

Well, no matter what she tried, she could not access the netfirms website. That was a problem, because netfirms is where she hosts her website and she uses it every day.

Turned out that she had to go to the firewall on her control panel and add firefox as an allowed connection.

I was reminded again to keep a computer journal to write down all of these little problems and their solutions, because tomorrow I will not remember!

  1. I take it you never got a Google Notebook.

  2. Not yet Robert, but I will if it ever fits in my too busy schedule.

Have you ever used it, and if so do you find it helpful?
